Legislative and Political Goals

Gender Rights Maryland’s initial legislative goal is to see the passage of a comprehensive gender identity anti‐discrimination bill by the end of the 2012 legislative session.  This would mean advances in employment, housing, fair credit and public accommodations.  We expect to meet with Maryland State legislators in coming months to discuss matters related to such legislation and offer education, insight and answers to their questions regarding the impact of the legislation to Marylanders.

We are hoping to raise sufficient funding in 2011 to allow for a paid representative to be in Annapolis throughout the 2012 legislative session.

IT should be noted that the actual language of such bills are the resultant effort of many parties, but are contingent on sponsoring legislators and their co-sponsors.  It is our plan, and hope, to develop fully inclusive legislation for consideration in the next session.

The specific strategy, timing, and language of these efforts are yet to be determined and will be forged in alliance with legislators.

Long term there are many other goals we hope to address with the legislature on issues of Gender Rights.
